Gold's at nearly $1,100 an ounce. Here's how to sell your stuff.

One_year_gold With gold prices historically high--today's morning price was nearly $1,100--it's tempting to heed those radio and TV ads to trade your unwanted gold jewelry for cash. Earlier this year, Consumer Reports sent its mystery shoppers to price gold jewelry at pawn shops and jewelry stores in three states, and through three mail-in gold-buying companies: Cash4Gold, GoldPaq, and GoldKit. Click here for the prices we got, and advice on getting the most for your jewelry.

BE CAREFULL, there are many scammers out there looking to entice you since gold is at record highs. Yes its a great time to sell your gold but the price of gold isn't the most important, its the actual percentage of the price you are getting back. I made a mistake the first time i decided to sell my gold to a local gold buyer who i only found out after the fact that he paid me 55% of the gold market price. After doing my homework I found that only a refinery can pay you top dollar for your gold, there are many companies online who claim to be refiners but dont advertise their prices. After doing more research I found 2 or 3 companies that seemed reputable, I went with empire gold buyers who had an A rating with the BBB, not only did they pay me 90% of the gold market price, the transaction was done within 24 hours. I refered a few family members and friends who have all had a good experience with them. I would recommend to do your homework before sending your valuables out but empire insured my package with Fedex and had it processed the same day they recievd it. check them out, you'll be happy you did. Do not go to your local shops unless you want to be ripped off like i was.

Wow, do you work for Empire? The prices that I saw them offering were nothing close to 90% of market price. I am surprised that Consumer Reports would not have a way to report comments as inappropriate.

I also went with Empire Gold after doing a lot of research. They do pay the most on the net, but they explained to me that it's based on how much gold you have to sell and what quality the gold is.. I sold several 24K coins to them and got paid handsomely.. You can check them out for yourself at
