Q&A: Is cocoa mulch dangerous to dogs?

We're considering using cocoa mulch around our entire property but read online that this stuff could toxic to our dog. Any truth to those stories?

I have a friend whose family used Cocoa mulch for their garden recently, and his dog ate a bunch of it. Their dog died the next day. I wouldn't use it.
