International Builders’ Show Product Preview: QuietRock Soundproof Drywall
Dedicating a room of a new home theater with the latest flat-panel TV and state-of-the-art sound system? Then the last thing you want to do is wake the kids while you’re watching the DVD or have your entertainment ruined by your neighbors’ noisy central-air compressor.
QuietRock drywall is a soundproofing wall and ceiling panel that manufacturer Quiet Solution claims will reduce up to eight times more noise than ordinary gypsum board. The QuietRock comes in varying thicknesses in 4x8-foot sheets, with additional sizes up to 4x12 feet.
QuietRock 510 (shown), suitable for DIY installation, according to the manufacturer, costs $40 for a 1⁄2-inch 4x8-foot sheet; the same-size panel of the 5⁄8-inch 530 costs about $130. The highest-performance panels are 1-3⁄8 inches thick.—Ed Perratore

I am considering purchasing an older townhome/condo that is attached to a similar unit next door. The two units share a common wall. I understand from the neighbor that he can hear sounds from my potential unit when the tv is up loud or there are very loud voices in either of the two rooms located on that side of the condo. I am considering buying and trying to add soundproofing. Have you heard of any reports of people using this QuietRock product and whether it is effective?
Thanks!

I live in a townhome and share a wall with my bedrooms joining a kitchen and living room in the other townhome. Their TV is on the wall that is opposite my front bedroom and the kitchen cabinet wall is opposite my back bedroom. I hear their TV in my front bedroom and ALL of their kitchen noise, especially cabinet doors closing. Am considering QuietRock soundproof drywall on those walls. Does anyone have any information about effectiveness??
Thanks,
Bill
