Hunter Fan Co. humidifier recall
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on November 6 announced the recall of about 84,000 Hunter Fan Co. Warm Mist Carefree Humidifiers due to a fire hazard. The humidifiers ($40 to $65) were sold from September 2005 through February 2007 at Lowe's and Wal-Mart stores nationwide as well as at other discount and hardware stores and through mail-order catalogs and Web retailers.
For detailed information on the recalled humidifiers, go to the manufacturer’s recall page or read the CPSC's announcement.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH HUNTER?! I had bought 2 of these humidifiers in 2006 and got their brand because of their reputation for quality. They were recalled July 07, I found out when my local TV station mentioned the recall in Oct 07, we immediately called and were told to disable and discard both. The recall team took our info and promised to send new replacements. It is now mid-January 08 and after repeated calls still hav not received our new humidifiers. Living in South Carolina, we only need these in the cod months (now) and have already had to buy a new one to limp by on (NO, it was NOT another Hunter). Meanwhile, Lowe'os, where I bought them, sent a letter regarding the recall late in December. What is with this slow service? I am beginning to doubt Hunter's sincerity that they will be replaced!

I am having a similar problem with the recall process. I received a letter from Hunter advising of the recall, stop using immediately, and an 800 number to call. They are suppose to send me a form to fill out and return. then they will send a replacement. This was 12/26/07. After two calls they still have not sent the form and had no record of my request.
I need it now as it is dry in North Carolina.
When I get some results I'll post them here.

Received the card for replacement and returned it, now I'll try to be patient.

I too am in the same situation as the other members. I called when I noticed the recall, and they were to send a postcard confirming the information. Once I filled out the card and sent it in they would process my refund. I never got a post card. I called back after waiting three weeks and the said they were two weeks behind that was almost two months ago. I was then told they would resubmit my information and re-issue the card 1-2 weeks. I am still waiting and it is going on three weeks now. I am doubting that there will ever be a refund or a replacement.

It gets worse. Delivery was not made because I was away and UPS sent it back along with the reason "undeliverable due to house damaged by fire". Not true at all.
Have contacted Hunter and asked for a refund. The waiting game starts all over.

Finally. Hang in there folks, it will happen. I received my check yesterday. It took three more calls, the first two useless but the third got someone who would do their job.

i also had a huter warm mist humidifer,it melted down and filled my house with smoke. thank god it was plugged into a surge protector, or i proubly wouldnt have a house today. i was at work and came home to find a smoke filled home and started freaking out trying to find the sourse of smoke and finaly did , a melted down smoking humidifer. i went online and found the recall and called the company and was told i would be compensated ,yeah right its been over 6 months and not even a letter of any sort. i guess the company doesnt care about the consumer or if their product injures or damages . if i ever buy another humidifier it wont be a hunter product.
