Uncle Sam gets greener

Epa_seal_large_2 With the Consumers Union sites GreenerChoices.org and Eco-labels.org, you’ve got no shortage of news and information on environmental matters. If you’re looking for yet another resource, sign up for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s recently launched “Go Green!” monthly e-mail newsletter.

The most-recent issue featured standard-fare green coverage—buying Energy Star products, using the EPA’s Power Profiler—and also included tips on hurricane preparation. (See our Storm & Emergency Guide for advice on how to prepare for and deal with hurricanes and other natural disasters.) According to the EPA, the newsletter will regularly incorporate EPA news reports and details on upcoming environmental events.

As we recently reported, states are doing a better job than the federal government on the environmental front, so the EPA's reaching out to the public with the newsletter is a welcome—but small—step.Steven H. Saltzman
