Digital SLR Ratings: Nikon D90 and other new models

Nikond90dslr Innovative new features, such as live-view LCDs and high-definition video, are helping to keep SLRs selling briskly, even in this dismal economic climate.

If you're considering an SLR, check out our newly-updated Ratings (available to subscribers) of 22 basic and advanced models.

You'll find full test results for some fascinating new models, including the $1300 Nikon D90—the first digital SLR with video capability, pictured at right—and the $799 Panasonic DMC-G1, the first SLR-like camera that uses interchangeable lenses, which claims to offer "SLR power." You'll also find our assessment of the latest in Canon's basic Rebel line, the $500 EOS Rebel XS, and a 15-megapixel advanced SLR, the $1400 Canon EOS-50D.

Want to know which two SLRs, one basic and one advanced, maintain good image quality at ISO settings up to an impressive 3200, and which three models' quality starts to drop when you set their ISO higher than 400? That's in the Ratings, too.
