Sony recalls notebooks that may overheat
Sony's VAIO VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series and VGN-TZ2000 series of notebooks are hot—literally. The electronics giant announced today with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that it is voluntarily recalling models in these four notebook lines due to potential burn hazards to the user.
According to the CPSC, irregularities in the wiring and/or a loose screw inside the screen hinge could cause a short-circuit and overheating.
Not every model in the four VAIO series is affected. VAIO owners should call Sony (888-526-6219) and check Sony's Web site for more information. Consumers should also check our latest post on the Consumer Reports Safety Blog and at the CPSC Web site for more details about the Sony notebook recall.

I have a VGN-SZ460N model VAIO Computer by Sony. The battery NEVER lasted longer than 1.25 hours regardless of settings. It gets so hot on the bottom, that I can barely stand to touch it with my bare hand.
This computer retailed for over $2,000.00. It has been the worst ownership experience of a computer by far. I have owned 4 other laptop/notebook computers. And a host of Desktop PC's.
My experience with Sony's VAIO Notebook was so bad, (along with Microsoft's Vista OS), that I finally jumped ship recently to try a MacBook Pro. That computer is proving to be a worthy replacement, although I do miss some PC features, and some programs. My understanding is that with the right software, I can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Now that I have experienced a MacBook, I can see what the "noise" is about, mainly in design and ergonomics. Truly, this is a piece of American Knowhow, and nothing short of it.
It just shows what we can do in the technology world if we want to. I do understand that parts of that product might originate in other countries, but regardless... the engineering that goes into these units (from one piece aluminum) to the way they compact everything into less than one-inch? Beautiful!
More later when I have truly had time to experience a MAC>
