Sharp offers lower-cost 1080p SB-series LCDs

Sharp is targeting the growing market for larger-size 1080p LCD TVs with a new, lower-priced SB series of 42-, 46-, and 52-inch LCD sets. Prices will range from $1,400 for a 42-inch model (LC-42SB45U) to $2,300 for a 52-inch set (LC-52SB55U). All have piano-black finishes.Lc52sb55u34lhires_2

Sharp says the TVs include technology to improve black levels and contrast and wide viewing angles; we haven't yet reviewed any of these models. The 52-inch model (click on the image at right for a closer look) has four HDMI inputs—the 42-incher has three and the 46-inch model has two. All three have two component-video inputs, plus dedicated PC inputs for use as a PC monitor.

The TVs also include Sharp's OPC technology, a dynamic brightness feature designed to save energy by automatically adjusting the TV's brightness according to room brightness and lighting.

The 46- and 52-inch models are in stores now, and the 42-inch will be available next month.

I got the LC-42SB45U from Dell for <$800
The Panasonic (720P) plasma Th42pX80U you can buy it now on 6ave for $659 (free shipping no tax)
Check out Black Friday websites (www.BFads.net or so) and see what might still come up.
I don't think I could tell much difference between 720P & 1080P, 60 & 120 hz for 99% of things I am going to watch.

Too bad I order my LCD before I saw the plasma deal. If I were you I might just get the plasma and use the difference for a blue ray player ($128 Magnavox @ walmart on BF). I believe I'll get more bang for the bucks by doing that.

TO: L. Marshall - "120 Hz .... + what else..?"

Hopefully, you'll Not buy until Black Friday !

Between these horrible world financial swings, the glut of HDTVs from heavy over-production based upon a "Healthy Holiday buying season", bankruptcies each day, etc., the choices are endless !

* No, the 120 Hz is Not necessary in a 42". Besides, a plasma set doesn't ever need or offer any 120 Hz !

* There are so many sales on Top Tier Sets that there's no economical advantage in buying / risking a Vizio.

* IF you have a Costco membership, at least look there Before buying.

* Right now, there are astounding sales on TH-42PX80U Panasonic sets ... $700.

* Sear's has already "leaked" their pricing ... no "links" work here, so, go to "Electronics Blogs-television" & read about "SEAR's Black Friday!"

help... I'm buying a 42 inch lcd and can't decide which one to buy... is the 120 hz really important? I really like the look and price of the Vizio but don't know if it's any good... and there's a Sharp on sale too but it's only 60 hz (as is the Vizio)... Help!
