LG Voyager Cell Phone: First impressions

Lgvoyagerblog_3

If a new cell phone is on your holiday wish list, wireless service providers and phone makers are more than happy to flood you with dozens of new models that offer a slew of new features and other goodies.

To be sure, one of the hottest wireless phones for holiday shoppers is Apple's iPhone. But if you're a Verizon customer and are hesitant to switch over to the AT&T service, there's good news. The wireless carrier now offers the LG Voyager, a cell phone that closely mimics the iPhone's touch-screen and other capabilities. (Click on the image at right for a closer look.)

On ConsumerReports.org, we've taken a closer look at this iPhone competitor as well as Verizon's other heavily-promoted phones, the LG Venus and Samsung Juke. Check out our free report all three phones.

The report also has an online video which shows the LG Voyager in action. Click on the player below or go to our most recent cell phones Ratings report on ConsumerReports.org to see the video. (You must have Macromedia Flash software installed to watch our free online videos.)

DO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR INTERNET????????

This phone is a joke. What a waste of money.

sooooo wut do u think i should do get the voyager titanium for christmas or wait all the way until july???

i just like got the voyager and my friend's ex is getting it too! i luv it!

voyager rules!!! dont hate haters

Don't get the Voyager...
I have gone through 3 in 3 months. My first one the touch screen bled yet wasn't covered under warranty, so I had to pay a $50 deductible to get a new one. Then that one the lights on the internal keyboard went out. After having that one replaced under warranty, my latest one's speaker/mic I guess you could say went out. I would call people and they couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear them. I understand one phone going bad, there are always the bad ones in the bunch, but 3? Thats not just bad luck if you ask me.

I hardly ever used the touch screen, it was always slow and not always responsive. I loved it for the first month, but after that it just gets bulky and you always have to worry about protecting the front screen. I even had a hard cover on it the whole time.

i just got the voyager and i think its the best phone out right now. to nicole who said all that bad stuff about the phone u must have got a messed up one or somethin cause mine does not freeze or miss calls

The Voyager is the most amazing phone! Its touchscreen is much less touchy if you take it in and upgrade to the version 9 software. I bought mine and my partners phone at the same time. I was able to get his upgraded to v9. I unfortunely due to verizon system error had to wait several days and live with v7. v9 is just more tweaked and better in so many ways. I've bought the jabra bt8040 bluetooth and it streams all audio/tv/phone/movies...everything in perfect and pretty loud audio! Not many bluetooths do yet and it was worth the money.check out voyager-lg.com and you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about this phone. with a 8gb microSD card you can have like at least 15 movies and thousands of songs and videos. All of the features are amazing my only complaint is no flash for camera. The body glove case and the invisble shield total phone protector saved my phone from a 7 foot drop and a 4 foot slide after it hit the ground without a scratch. No joke. I of course did this the 3rd day i had the phone. Its my nature to mess up nice things but again...not a scratch. I truly love this phone and the huge keyboard. Wish it had wifi and the only browser that beats this one is the iphone(I have tested) but i don't care.4g is on the way....

You're seriously going to buy a 12 year-old girl a LG Dare, LG Voyager or Palm Centro? Wow...

At any rate, I have a couple friends who recently tried the Voyager and proceeded to trade them in for Dares. They are both very happy with the Dare still...

LG voyager - LG Dare - Or Palm Centro??????

What would be best for my Twelve year old daughter her birthday is in 3 weeks and im getting her a phone what one out of those 3 works best????

Okay, so i have a free upgrade which actually was a few days ago after having the razor for 2 years im totally sick of it, mainly because it does not have a full keyboard and cant wait to get a new phone! although im leaning towards the voyager im still unsure which phone to get (samsung glyde is the other option). i have heard differnt things about each of the phones but i dont like that the glyde has such a small keyboard. PLEASE HELPP!!

i would go with the env2.
ill tell ya something. ive had 5 phones from verizon in the past 3 months and it is my far my favorite.
the other phones i had were :
1)vx8350- good solid reliable phone but boring design.
2)green env- great for texting, solid construction and quality, but very bulky.
3)motorola z6tv- nice call quality but main catch was expensive tv service. also the buttons felt like stickers.
4)chocolate 2 (vx8550)-great design, but wasnt a fan of touch and the design and build quality (slider felt loose and flimsy) also it scratched very easily

after owning all four of the above phones, i gave the env2 a try, and ive been happy for a whole month so far. call quality is awesome, ppl say i sound like im on a landline phone. very sturdy construction. keyboard is roomy and perfect for heavy texters or ppl who dont prefer the t9. yes the front screen is a tad small, but thats okay because the front keypad is very spacious and tactile.
plus, i think the regular buttons on the front give it an edge over the voyager and glide in the long run. (durability and reliability)

i would definetly give the env2 a try if i were you. its even managed to satisfy me, the pickiest phone customer out there=)

I got the LG Voyager the day it came out and I love it. Granted the touch screen is touchy at times and not as responsive as the iphones but I love that it has a full keyboard for texting. I find that the size of it is very convenient as well it is thicker than the Iphone but slimmer, this makes it very easy to carry and hold while talking. I almost got the Glyde by Samsung but I didn't like that it slides up and dosnt flip. It makes it very hard for me to hit the top buttons because I have big fingers. Also a few of the features that I wanted did not come with the glyde. But I switched from the Samsung Alias and I also liked that it had so much memory. So the best I can say it go to Verizonwireless.com and compair phones. Thats the only way your going to know what fit you best.

weeeeeee luv da voyager but we dnt no if we should get it afta reading these commentzzzzzzzzzz ( HELP )

To the girl Nicole that said she hates her voyager...I don't know how long ago you purchased it, but I know within 30 days of the purchase date you can exchange it for a different one...I know this because my friend had got the enV and hated it, she went back a week later and got another phone...I would go to verizon and tell them...as for me, my upgrade is in 10 days and I can't wait to get the voyager!

PLEASE ADVISE!!!!!!!
i am eligible for an upgrade on july 9 and i want a new and exciting phone...i have heard mixed reviews but would like to know...is the voyager slow and delayed? does it really turn off? is it worth its price? please answer.

The Glyde is AWESOME. I love it. I would recommend it to anyone who has small enough fingers to use it. Other than that it's a great phone. The camera is very clear. It's an impeccable phone.

i cant decide whether to get the lg voyager
or the samsung glyde
ive heard that the voyager
shuts off alot and the glyde is slow
which should i get
cuz i also hear positive stuff
about both

I hate the voyager.
I don't recommend it for anyone.
It freezes and shuts off and doesn't receive half of my calls.
I don't like this phone at all.
And I'm stuck with it for 2 years.

i'm trying to decide on whether i should get a
LG Voyager or a Samsung Glyde
but i can't choose.
I think that they're both cool.
But the voyager looks better on the out side (and its 2 screens)
but one of my friends said that its not good
the screen freezes a lot and all that.
is it true?

Does Voyager have (of course call friends thing):
-Internet connections
-picture storage
-Music storage
-Navagatior
-Watch TV on
-Play Games
-Connect to Laptop
-Texting
-Check e-mails

I love my new Voyager. It is so cool. I love how easy it is to use. It has great features and the GPS is excellent.

Any plans on ranking the Voyager as part of your other cell phones' list so we can see how it compares to the iphone and other top phones?

The Voyager is by far the greatest thing since sliced bread. I love how I can work on the web and watch vcast when I travel. Much better than the iphone. I had a iphone and sold it once the voyager was released.
