Coming soon: 2011 Mazda2
Mazda announced plans at a dealer meeting yesterday to import its sub-compact Mazda2 to the United States in late 2010. Smaller than the Mazda3, the Mazda2 is sold overseas as a front-wheel drive three- or five-door hatchback. It is sized like the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris.
Along with the upcoming Chevrolet Spark and Ford Fiesta, the 2 will add to the competition in the subcompact segment--a category that had virtually vanished from the U.S. a few years ago. We’ll likely see a 1.5-liter double-overhead-camshaft engine version with variable induction that makes about 102 horsepower.
The Mazda2 won European Car of the Year when it was introduced there in 2008. Other small Mazdas we have tested are very competitive in their classes and enjoyable to drive. We look forward to trying the Mazda2 when it arrives to see if it lives up to its reputation.

Completely ridiculous. My current car which is almost 10 years old already gets 35 miles per gallon. Attainable goals by individuals who have already converted their cars to burn cleaner, get 100 miles per gallon. If one person can do this by himself, why can't government mandate the same of a huge team of engineers to create such a car? Well, we all know the answer. It was more of a rhetorical question. From 100 miles per gallon, the following models should be dual solar/electric generator cars. It can be done. I guess our children and their children will suffer. Don't you and I just want this for their future? Sad, very sad.

Just don't let a Mazda2 crash into a Mazda6.

If a 2 crashes into a 6, is the wreckage an 8 or a 12?

What a great idea, there are a lot of very good sub-compacts out there in the EU and Japan that we just haven't gotten as too many consumers were hooked on SUV's. It is about time we start getting some of the good cars as viable choices in our fleet mix. This car is what we need, a fun to drive car in the sub-compact class as an alternative to the Versa, Fit and Yaris.

All you mazda haters are just fools. Can you say 306,000 miles on a miata with everything orginal including clutch. I take a mazda over any toyota, nissan, or any other Jap car. they are fun to drive and very dependable. Cant wait for the Mazda 2
