Infant deaths reported: Stop using Simplicity bassinets

Simplicity2 After learning of two infant deaths that occurred in Simplicity bassinets, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging consumers to stop using the products.

In two separate incidents involving the Simplicity convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinet, a 5-month-old girl and a 4-month-old girl became entrapped between two metal bars of the bassinet and strangled to death.

The warning pertains to Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinet models with an adjustable fabric flap that attaches with Velcro, and not to models that have fabric permanently attached.

Due to the serious hazard these bassinets pose to babies, the CPSC is urging consumers to share this warning with day care centers, consignment stores, family, and friends to ensure that no child is placed to sleep in the bassinets covered by this warning.
